Radiator Repair At Our Auto Shop

At our auto shop, one of the most common repairs we do is radiator repair. A radiator is a vital component of your car’s cooling system, and if it fails, it can cause your engine to overheat. In this blog post, we’ll explain what a radiator does, how to tell if yours needs to be repaired or replaced, and what the repair process looks like.

What is a radiator and what does it do?

A radiator is a type of heat exchanger. It transfers heat from the hot fluid inside the engine (coolant) to the air outside (ambient air). The coolant circulates through the engine, absorbing heat from various parts of the engine. It then flows through the radiator where the heat is dissipated into the ambient air. This process helps keep the engine operating at its optimal temperature.

How do you know if your radiator needs to be repaired or replaced?

There are several signs that your radiator may need to be repaired or replaced. These include:

  • Leaks: If you notice any leaks coming from your radiator, it’s time to bring it in for repair. A leaky radiator can lead to decreased cooling efficiency and engine overheating.
  • Overheating: If your engine overheats frequently or runs hotter than usual, it could be a sign that your radiator needs to be cleaned or replaced.
  • Coolant level: If you notice that your coolant level is low, it could mean that there’s a leak in your radiator. Bring your car in so we can take a look.
  • Corrosion: Over time, radiators can become corroded on the inside. This diminishes their ability to transfer heat properly and can lead to engine overheating. If you see any corrosion on your radiator, bring it in for repair or replacement.
  • Weep holes: Most radiators have to weep holes (small holes on the bottom edge) that allow any trapped air to escape. If coolant is leaking out of these weep holes, it’s an indication that your radiator needs to be replaced.

If you notice any of these signs, bring your car in for inspection as soon as possible. Ignoring these signs could result in more serious damage to your engine.

Radiator repair process

At our shop, we start by inspecting the entire cooling system for leaks or other problems. Once we’ve determined that the problem is with the radiator, we’ll drain all the coolant and remove any objects that may be blocking access to the radiator (such as shrouds or fans). We’ll then clean all debris and corrosion from inside the radiator with a high-pressure washer before testing it for leaks. Once we’re sure it’s leak-free, we’ll reinstall it and fill up the cooling system with fresh coolant before putting everything back together again.

If you think there may be something wrong with your car’s cooling system, don’t wait to bring it in for service. Our experienced mechanics will quickly diagnose and fix the problem so you can get back on the road worry-free. Schedule an appointment today!
